Neville Island is an island located in the Ohio River in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is situated about 10 miles (16 km) downstream from Pittsburgh and covers an area of approximately 2.5 square miles (6.5 km²) with a population of around 1,850 people.
The island was named after two prominent local families, the Nevilles and the Bayards. It was originally used for farming and fishing, with the first European settlement established in the late 1700s. In the early 1900s, the island became a major industrial hub with the construction of several steel mills and chemical plants.
Today, the island is home to a mix of industrial and residential areas. Some of the major employers on the island include Calgon Carbon, PITT OHIO, and FedEx Ground.
Neville Island is also known for its recreational opportunities, with several parks and access points to the Ohio River for fishing and boating. The island is easily accessible by a bridge that connects it to the mainland and nearby highways.
